Orbis, a global non-governmental organization committed to preventing and treating avoidable blindness, has joined forces with PBMA’s H.V. Desai Eye Hospital to launch the Green Vision Center (GVC) in Satara, Maharashtra. The center aims to provide quality optical services and primary eye care to communities in a sustainable and eco-friendly manner. The GVC is an innovative approach that uses solar-powered electricity, energy-efficient electrical fixtures and appliances, and digital data management.
The partnership between PBMA’s H.V. Desai Eye Hospital and Orbis has been instrumental in providing ophthalmic treatments to the communities for over two decades. The GVC is a crucial connection between the communities and sustainability in terms of eye care. “The Green Vision Centers are the next step in propelling the communities towards uninterrupted access to eye health services while contributing to the sustainable development goals,” said Derek Hodkey, President and CEO, Orbis International.
The GVC also addresses the long-drawn issue of data management by deploying digital data management software, resulting in better patient care, continuity of care, and real-time data availability for stakeholders and the government. With the launch of the GVC, Orbis and PBMA’s H.V. Desai Eye Hospital offer a new approach that brings eye health services closer to the communities and sustains the impact delivered.
